When I am particularly stressed, anxious, or experiencing painful symptoms, the distractive and expressive nature of creating art can be quite cathartic. Personally, I enjoy sketching and coloring but there is a vast array of different activities that can be helpful for people – writing, poetry, painting, sculpting, jewelry making, knitting etc. Art allows people to convey their thoughts and emotions – which is sometimes difficult to do verbally – in a different media. It is all about creating something personal….turning ideas and feelings into something tangible. Every person has a unique life experience and point of view, so the possibilities of what may can be created is endless.
